Olive trees have exercised a unique fascination over many centuries. As one writer penned, "The olive tree is mystical, symbolic, and religious as well as farm crop grown for table and oil purposes." Historical records show the olive has been in existence for over 6000 years. There is no other cultivated crop, with the exception of grapes, that has such mythical fascination and romance.

Grown throughout the Mediterranean, the olive grows well in hot, dry desert-like conditions. It requires little water and fertilizer. Olive trees will succumb quickly to too much water and severe freezing weather. The tree is evergreen with dark green and silvery colored leaves. The tree will remain in miniature form if grown in a small pot. When transplanted to larger containers, the tree will respond accordingly.

Caring for the trees require very little attention. Place in a well-drained pot and water sparingly. If grown indoors, place it where it will receive sunlight.
